Monte’ L. Demars is a native of Natchitoches, Louisiana. He is the father of four adorable children: Charisma, Katelyn, Monte’ II, and Destine. He is married to a beautiful Shreveport native: Sharonda Johnson Demars. He is a proud graduate of Northwestern State University, located in Natchitoches, Louisiana. There he received his Bachelor of General Studies with a concentration in Language and Communications. Mr. Demars received his Master of Arts degree from Louisiana College, located in Pineville, Louisiana; and is currently working on his doctoral degree in Leadership Studies with a concentration on Educational Leadership at Louisiana State University, Shreveport, Louisiana. Mr. Demars has always known that his purpose in life was to become an educator. He has diligently worked to climb the educational ladder from being a long-term substitute teacher, school bus operator, and paraprofessional, until he decided to return to college to pursue his dream of being an innovative educator and Educational Leader. Mr. Demars has worked extensively throughout his tenure as an educator. He is the founder of Young Men of Excellence, a male mentoring program that mentors at-risk youth by teaching them basic principles of living purpose-driven lives. He worked as the instructor of Save Our Children, an alternative education program for atrisk students. Mr. Demars has served in the capacity of disciplinarian on many occasions during his pursuit, and has loved every minute of it! Mr. Demars’ desire is to use his passion for education to empower others and effect positive change in the lives of those whom he has been given the opportunity to impact. Over the past twenty years, he has touched the lives of many young people, and began his administrative career as assistant principal of Green Oaks High School in Shreveport, Louisiana where he was trained as a Teacher Advancement Program (TAP) administrator. In this capacity he enjoyed mentoring teachers by modeling best practices and research-based instructional strategies used to prompt intellectual engagement in the minds of students. He later became the Principal of Alexandria Middle Magnet School in Rapides Parish where he served as the instructional leader for the school turn around model in the district. There he was trained in the Data Teams Process, presented district-wide professional developments on “Effective Classroom Management”, and implemented the first TAP-like design where teachers received weekly job-embedded professional development from an instructional coach housed on the school’s campus. Life has led him to return to our district to continue his educational journey, and impact the lives of our students. His most recent assignment was a middle school English teacher at Booker T. Washington High School where he facilitated PLC’s, served on the leadership team, and demonstrated his ability to effect change by increasing student proficiency rates of approximately twenty points on the state assessment. While working on his doctoral degree, he now serves as Assistant Principal of Administration at Woodlawn High School.
